Why did the boys kill Simon?

The boys killed Simon because their minds were so stuck into the song they were singing "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" that they weren't really focusing on anything else when Simon stumbled into the middle of their horseshoe they immediately figured that it was the beast and with them singing the song they followed exactly that.

Describe the event in chapter 8 that truly shows the boys descent into total savagery.

The event in Chapter 8 that shows the boys have become total savages is when Jack and his hunters go hunting for another pig to eat. Jack now has become so familiar with hunting he now know how to creep up on the sow without it hearing him. Also when the boys finally got hold of the pig they all hurled themselves at her and Jack continued to stab her and ended his killing by slicing the neck. The boys no longer are afraid of killing they have become accustomed to it.

How is Simon different from the others?

Simon is different from the others because when it came down to the boys deciding who was going to go back and tell Piggy that they were staying on the Mountain until morning time Simon volunteered himself to go while the rest of the boys were scared to go by themselves. Simon seems like the only one that still has a little bit of hope left in him and he is willing to take risk in doing anything to help Ralph.

How has Jack changed?

Jack has changed a little in Chapter 6 because he use to be just all about hunting and always going against Ralph. He still is about his hunting but he shows a little change in attitude with Ralph. When Ralph was climbing the cliff by himself Jack appeared right behind him and said "Couldn't let you do it on your own". That shows that Jack was willing to go with Ralph and had his back with finding this "beast". Also when Ralph made a demand for all of them to go back to the mountain to light the fire Jack didn't argue with Ralph he simply went along with him. Jack is showing that he is actually on the same "team" with Ralph right now but you can see that the old Jack is somewhat in him still.

Jack disrupted the meeting because he was tired of Ralph talking so much especially upon the fire that Jack let go out. Jack wanted his chance to be heard and not only Ralph. Jack also disrupts the meeting when he gets up and is getting everyone all roared up about being frightened with the "beasts" . The core of the power struggle between Ralph and Jack is that they both want to be in charge and want everyone to follow them. Ralph wants everyone to think about how they are going to be rescued if they don't have luck and he wants everyone to just have order and follow what he says because he is chief. Jack on the other hand wants everyone to think about hunting and killing and he wants them to believe that being frightened is ignorant because he has been through the forest and has not seen one beast. The techniques of anarchy and disruption that Jack applies is during every meeting he talks about hunting and killing and he is always the only one that is so rude to Piggy. Jack is not always around anymore because he is always going hunting trying to kill pigs. The result of this is that everyone is now splitting up and deciding which side they are on, Jack or Ralph's. What this tells about Jack and Ralph is that Jack is no longer such a great leader he tries to use force for the wrong reasons and all he can think about is hunting and nothing more. What it tells about Ralph is that he is the more concerned one about everyone getting off the island. Being on the island has caused Ralph to become a better leader in the head but he is never able to make meetings go his way. Jack uses force and is mean so everyone always listens to him because their afraid.

Why are the boys willing to kill a pig? How have their attitudes and behavior changed over time?

The boys are willing to kill a pig because they needed meat to eat instead of all the fruits and nuts they kept having to eat. Also they were probably so willing to kill the pig because they were no longer feeling like they were going to be rescued so if their going to be stranded on the island til` they die then they might as well eat well. Plus they probably just wanted Ralph to see that they actually went hunting and brought back something so he wouldn't have to worry about how they were going to eat with still being on the island.The attitudes and behavior of the boys has changed now because they all use to have hope that they might get rescued but now they seem to have given up hope, except for Ralph. Also at first Ralph was really excited and calm about being on an island without parental guidance, now he seems to really want to get rescued and go home. When Ralph found out about the fire going out and the ship not seeing it he seemed really stressed about it and he is also now stepping up and becoming more of a leader it seems. Jack has become more into wanting to hunt and seems to get really excited about it. The littleluns no longer seem as calm as they were before they want to go home as well. Piggy as well has changed he is more outspoken now and says how he feels.

How do the boys react to Ralph's suggestion to build huts for shelter?

The boys did not really take Ralph's suggestion in building the huts into consideration. Jack was definitely not supportive of this decision and made it clear all he wanted to do was hunt and kill. The other boys were playing, hunting, or only helping for a little while then running off. The only one that showed interest in building the shelters was Simon.
